The work was created during a period of personal upheaval and shows experimental work with both the color and the integration of lettering reflected in it.
The color gradients and application technique differ between the upper and lower parts of the painting, which further reinforces the meaning of the saying. You can have one and the same thing in front of you—it sometimes depends on the circumstances and treatment, what results from it and how something reacts.
The saying also represented an important insight at the time it was written. Many people tend to close their eyes to the mistakes of others, allowing themselves to be blinded by the supposedly positive aspects and failing to adequately represent their own worth. Stay mindful and choose what's good for you.
