I had a wonderful vision of how bold color elements could be applied in large-scale, impasto forms with a palette knife on the canvas. The painting, as it finally appears, came about after I was disabused of this notion and improvised with the color reaction on the raw canvas, which was still unfamiliar to me.
The work speaks to a completely new kind of aesthetic for me, as it is less about the initial moment of perception, which usually presents itself to me within a few seconds through composition and color, but rather in small details, unique color structures and luminously merging color fields.
